Mauritius is the perennial beach paradise, so popular with Honeymoon couples the world over, especially South Africans.
Mauritius is famously known as the only place that Dodo’s were ever found, and once found, they were extinct literally eighty years later. They were a very slow and easy catch for the sailors and, since it had not seen people before, had no reason to fear them. Apart from the Dodo, Mauritius is not really well known for any other unique animal or plant life, but more so for its beaches and weather. The island really only has 2 seasons (summer and winter) with there not being much temperate differences between the two throughout the year.
Hotels run along the beaches and open right out onto them. The sand is white and clean and the water is warm and inviting.
Some of the most popular things to do in Mauritius includes deep sea fishing with the most common fish caught being the blue or black marlin. Almost everything you do in Mauritius will revolve or include the beach/sea in some way. This could be just relaxing and improving your tan, to swimming, diving and snorkelling. There are many shopping centres around the island, but the best places to pick up curios and trinkets are the little local markets. This is often where the fishermen bring in their catch for the day so great seafood deals can be found as well.
